Biography

Maxim Estevez-Curtis is a New York City–based freelance violist performing across orchestral, operatic, theater, recording, and live event settings. She has appeared with ensembles including the Symphony of Westchester, Bronx Orchestra, String Orchestra of Brooklyn, Press Start Video Game Music Orchestra, Brooklyn Chamber Players, and Orchestra Amadeus, and has performed in pit orchestras for musical theater productions.

An active performer in the city’s opera scene, Maxim has worked with Bronx Opera Company, New Amsterdam Opera, and Opera America, and is a regular member of the pit orchestra for Regina Opera Company.

In addition to live performance, she is an active recording artist, contributing to sessions with local bands and independent musicians as well as commercial projects. She is featured on “Venus Fly Trap” by Brakence (Columbia Records, 2022) and on the soundtrack for Pets, a documentary directed by Bryce Dallas Howard (Disney+, 2025).

Maxim maintains a diverse freelance career, regularly performing for weddings, corporate events, and private engagements through agencies such as Elan Artists and Eventique. She also teaches violin, viola, and piano, and has held administrative roles within performing arts organizations.

She holds a Bachelor of Music from New York University, where she studied with Stephanie Baer and Karen Ritscher, graduating magna cum laude and receiving the Outstanding Leadership and Service in String Performance Award. While at NYU, she served as principal viola of NYU Orchestras, performed with the Baroque Ensemble and Broadway Orchestra, frequently collaborated with composition students on new works, and co-founded the West 4th Collective, a virtual orchestra created during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Maxim is currently freelancing in New York City.
